TOURISM AND HANDICAPS LABEL
"TOURISM AND HANDICAPS" : National label to improve the accessibility of tourist attractions
This label, introduced by the Ministry of Tourism in 2001, aims to provide reliable information about tourist sites and amenities in France for people with reduced mobility and other disabilities (hearing, mental, physical and sight).
The Association des Paralysés de France (AFP) and Departemental Tourism Committees have been delegated by the Regional Tourist Board to assess appmications for this "seal of approval" from tourist industry players throughout the Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
In addition to its role as an assessor, the APF also advises and informs hotel and restaurant owners, museums, beaches, etc. as how they can improve their sevices and accessibility for disabled people, with a view to obtaining the approval from the Regional Tourist Board.
The approved tourist structures are promoted through the departmental and regional tourism committees and Tourist Offices in particular.
PLACES ACCESSIBLE TO PEOPLE WITH REDUCED MOBILITY WITH ASSISTANCE
Some places are classified as being "accessible to people with reduced mobility with assistance". This means that they offer such facilities as toilets for wheelchair users and are equipped with ramps, etc. although they have not yet received the "Tourism & Handicap" seal of approval.
